Castles and Palaces of Castile and León Route

3-Night Itinerary

This route takes you around some of the most historic Paradors located in Castile and León. The region is famous for its importance in Spanish royal history and what better way to explore this history than staying in some charming former castles and palaces.

Suggested access airports: Madrid/Bilbao

Parador de Sigüenza - Night 1

The first night starts at possibly one of the most picturesque Paradors, the Parador de Sigüenza. On arrival in Sigüenza we are sure visitors will be awed by the beauty of the contrast that the town offers, an urban complex presided by the castle in which the Parador is located. In this town, you can find interesting spots like the cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, the “Casa Del Doncel”, the façade of the Clarisas de Santiago, the church of San Vicente or the parochial church of Sta. María. Wander around the streets and squares and get transported back in time.

Parador de Lerma - Night 2

Lerma is a beautiful village in the province of Burgos. The Parador is located in a Ducal Palace in the Plaza Mayor (Main Square). From here you can explore the best that Lerma has to offer such as the ex-Collegiate Church of San Pedro, the Sta. Clara Square and many more spots. You will also find many convents in Lerma and in some of these exquisite sweet cakes are prepared and sold to the visitors. We also recommend trying lamb “Castillian style” with fine Arlanza wine for a true taste of the region’s traditional dishes.

Parador de Benavente - Night 3

Benavente is the last stop on the Route. The village is located at an strategic location, where the fertile valleys of the Esla, Órbigo and Tera rivers join. We reach the Parador, located in the Castillo de la Mota which was erected during King Ferdinand II’s resettlement of the area in the XII century. There is plenty to see and enjoy in this village, like the churches of Santa María de Azogue or San Juan del Mercado, and the Hospital of La Piedad, built during the XVI century to host the pilgrims in the Saint James Way.
