COAST AND MOUNTAINS IN CATALONIA
14TH - 21ST OCTOBER 2022: STAYING IN PARADORS AT AIGUABLAVA & VIC-SAU
A short relaxing break with interesting excursions, staying at the Parador at Aiguablava on the coast and the Parador at Vic-Sau in the foothills of the Pyrenees. These hotels combine two very different locations in ”Real Spain”.

This holiday starts in the foothills of the Pyrenees at the Parador de Vic-Sau from where, weather permitting, there will be a journey by rack railway to Nuria, nestling in the peaks of the mountains at the time of year when the Autumn colours are at their best.
After 3 days in the mountain air we drop down to sea level to stay at the recently renovated Parador de Aiguablava standing in an idyllic position on a headland with stunning views of the Mediterranean coast. This can be a relaxing week for people wanting to have a quiet holiday or for the more energetic there is hill walking at Vic, and coastal paths for walkers and 3 golf courses close to Aiguablava.
Extra nights can be booked before or after each holiday at Paradores or other hotels that we know and recommend. Various options are given at the end of the day to day itinerary below.
Airlines have a habit of changing times of flights but these are the times listed for the dates below.
FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER: Fly to Barcelona and drive to the Parador at AIGUABLAVA on a headland with spectacular views of the Mediterranean . After settling in there will be a welcome drink followed by dinner in the Parador.
SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER: This will be the day for the mountains. A short drive leads to Ribes de Freser from where a rack railway rises up the Val de Nuria to a height of 1964 metres (6400’) where there will be time to walk in the mountains, have lunch or simply relax. The early evening will be spent in the town of Vic to sample the local tapas bars etc, go to Mass if wished and explore the town. This will give flexibility to have something to eat in Vic, or a bar snack or dinner in the Parador, as after all the mountain air some people might not want a late night. Dinner is not included.
SUNDAY 16TH OCTOBER: This will be a day at the Parador, to enjoy the local surroundings. For walkers there are various walking routes from the Parador. If anyone wants to go to the town of Vic we can arrange taxis. Dinner or tapas supper in the Parador.
MONDAY 17TH OCTOBER: Mid morning departure to the coast with time for lunch beside the sea before continuing to the Parador at AIGUABLAVA for a 4-night stay. Dinner in the Parador.
TUESDAY 18TH OCTOBER: There will be nothing organised so that this can be a relaxing day in the beautiful surroundings, and maybe a swim at the beach below the Parador, but for those who would like to have a long walk or a round of golf we can arrange taxis if needed. Dinner or tapas supper in the Parador.
WEDNESDAY 19TH OCTOBER: A day to explore the medieval villages in the local area starting with a visit to the village of Peratallada with time for lunch. There will then be a visit to the Greek and Roman settlement at Empurias followed by a stop at the village of Pals. We shall also stop in the village of Begur. Dinner is not included to give an opportunity for anyone to remain in either Pals or Begur for the evening, to sample the local restaurants, or have either a bar snack or dinner in the Parador.
THURSDAY 20TH OCTOBER: This will be a quiet day in the Parador but transport will be arranged for those who would like to go to Begur or to one of the 3 golf courses in the area. After a farewell drink a special dinner in the Parador will celebrate the final night of the last of over 70 Parador holidays.
FRIDAY 21ST OCTOBER: Mid morning departure for the city of Girona for a short walk round the historic centre and time for lunch before going to the airport for the return flight
Price per person sharing:
1475€ + flights
Single supplement: 55€ per night
Price includes:
- 5 nights Dinner and B&B (incl. drinks)
- 2 nights B&B only
- Superior rooms with balconies and lake & mountain views at Vic.
- All rooms at Aiguablava with balconies and sea views.
If a standard room is preferred at Vic the price will be reduced to 1400€ per person.
