Fewer obstacles to foreign travel, an easier ride for tourists

The government have finally relaxed the rules for re-entry into the UK which had been complicating arrangements for British holidaymakers returning home this summer from countries like Spain and Portugal.

Simpler rules apply which are now free of cost for almost everyone and much easier to comply with.

The UK has moved to scale back all Coronavirus travel restrictions from 4:00AM on Friday (18th March 2022). Passenger locator forms and the requirement for unvaccinated travellers to take a test will be scrapped. Several travel companies, including British Airways, will also abandon the requirement for passengers to wear a mask for the duration of their journey.

For adults travelling to Spain and Portugal, only proof of double vaccination (with booster) is required at the border (and a Passenger Locator Form and short health form to be completed) and on the return to the UK, no test is required before arrival back here. A passenger locator form is still required to be completed before arrival in the UK but once back in the country, no tests are required. These are very positive steps towards facilitating overseas travel at last!

This minimises the amount of paperwork and expense required for people travelling to Spain and Portugal.

N.B. For those travelling with children, we would advise you to keep an eye on the rules such as for children aged between 12 – 15 who are not double-vaccinated.

This rebalancing of our protocols for foreign travel has been long awaited and, for many of us, the government’s heavy-handed approach to international travel has held us back from enjoying the benefits of heading off to warmer and drier climates and different cultures, with all the attractions of diverse food, landscapes, architecture and lifestyle.

Our reservations team will be more than happy to discuss the current restrictions if you have any concerns, as well as any travel plans you would like to make.
