Description
Pousada de Marvão – Converted medieval hilltop houses
At an altitude of almost 1000 metres, the village of Marvão has stunning 360º panoramic views over the rugged Alentejan plain right to the Spanish border. Surrounded by 13th-century castle walls, this hilltop Pousada has been created from two village houses that still maintain their medieval character but which have been modernized to make a light and sunny building with simple furnishings and a cosy and relaxed feel. The ancient village of Marvão has narrow, winding cobbled streets, sparkling white buildings and a castle with spectacular views across to Spain. The Roman town of Ammaia is just 6 km away, and there is easy access to the S. Mamede mountain range.
