COVID-19 Travel Entry Requirements

Preparing for your return to the UK

Preparing your return journey. Find out more information about how to ensure you comply with UK entry requirements on your return journey.

Updated 27/1/22:

As long as we have been double-vaccinated the rules have been simplified enormously and for travel after 11th February, we only have to:

  • complete a passenger locator form (to be completed no earlier than 48 hours prior to arrival in England).
No COVID tests are required either before or after entry into the UK

To check the entry requirements for all four UK countries, please consult the individual border control websites which can be found here.

With both the UK government and EU countries adjusting the rules and documentation for those who have already received two or three doses of the vaccine the requirements may change so we recommend checking the FCO website for the latest information (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice), however we are able to provide the most up-to-date info for general travel abroad.

Portugal

Portugal is welcoming tourists back and the Portuguese Tourist Office has provided comprehensive information about where you can book a test here, should you need to take one whilst abroad.

Arrival in Portugal:
All UK travellers to Portugal (except those aged 11 and under), regardless of vaccination status, are required to present a negative COVID-19 test certificate on entry. This can either be an antigen test taken within 48 hours of departure or a PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure.

You are also required to fill out a passenger locator form no earlier than 48 hours prior to arrival.

For information on entry requirements for Portugal please consult the FCO’s Travel Advice Website.

Spain

Health provider Quirón Salud is the official partner of Iberia and Vueling airlines when it comes to PCR testing prior to departure from Spain and you can book tests and find out information on local testing centres on the Quiron Salud website.

The Castilla y Leon tourist board have also provided a comprehensive list of testing locations around the region which you can find here

Arrival in Spain:
Please note that UK travellers arriving in Spain are required to show proof that they have received their 2nd vaccine dose 14 or more days prior to arrival. Those who are unvaccinated (except those under 12 years old) will not be permitted entry.

You are also required to fill out a Health Form (similar to a passenger locator form) no earlier than 48 hours prior to arrival and to present confirmation of this on entry into Spain.

For information on entry requirements for Spain please consult the FCO’s Travel Advice Website.

France

You can find information about the local testing centres on the country’s national health website here.

Arrival in France
The UK is on France’s amber list so they have the following criteria for UK travellers:

Those who are fully/double vaccinated provide proof of vaccination status on arrival as well as a negative COVID-19 test result from either a PCR or antigen test taken no more than 48 hours before travel (self-administered tests are not accepted).

Those who are not vaccinated/not full vaccinated are only permitted to travel for essential reasons which can be found here. On arrival they must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result from either a PCR or antigen test taken no more than 24 hours before travel (self-administered tests are not accepted).

All UK travellers must complete a sworn statement with personal details and attesting they have not had any symptoms of COVID-19 prior to travel. This can be found here

For information on entry requirements for France please consult the FCO’s Travel Advice Website.

After your return

For those who are looking for options for tests on return, a number of airlines are working with different testing centres and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has provided resources for testing before and after you travel.
